House Hunting

So it's been a few days since I've written here so I have a few days to catch up on! Like I told everyone on Friday, we went house hunting last weekend. We haven't made any offers yet but there are a few potentials so that is really good news! I, personally, am leaning more towards Waukesha. Mainly because we have some friends out there. It's a bigger small town, which is a little weird. What I mean is it's actually a fairly big city but when you drive to where a lot of the houses are that we saw, it reminded me of Georgetown, or another mountain town like that. There are sections of really old industrial buildings. The kind that you figure are out of business but surprisingly are not. The houses out there are mostly colonial, which can be very beautiful. We actually found a very cool colonial house that MH really likes. I'm having a harder time liking it. There are things that I really like about it. For example, it has all new, beautiful light fixtures, it has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, granite counter tops, a 2 car garage and a good size back yard. Sounds great, right? WELL, it also has wooden built-ins EVERYWHERE! Some of them are nice, like the china cabinets in the dining room. But other's would drive me nuts, like the built-in table and benches in the kitchen. Our realtor thought that was one of the greatest things in the house but it reminds me of a mobile home with the pull down table! Or a cabin because everything is the natural wood color. I really want to like it though. I am pretty sure it is MH's number one pick so I would like to like it just for him, if anything, but I can't help thinking of the down sides. In addition to the built-ins, there is no bathroom on the main level, which would be fairly difficult with a potty-training 2-year-old. I'm really feeling like I can't be picky though and that worries me. Because of the time constraint, there is so much pressure to find one we love and buy it but I don't want to regret it. Our realtor isn't helping much either. We have made it VERY clear that we need to look at as many houses as possible in a short amount of time and she has indicated that wouldn't be a problem. However, now we are having a tough time getting her to schedule appointments! She keeps telling us reasons she didn't schedule a house, like she figured we would think the rooms were too small, or it didn't have A/C or other things that I really think should be OUR decision, not hers. I understand she is trying to save us time but we found out that some of the ones she threw out for room size had bigger rooms than our last house! So she's driving MH absolutely crazy and she's not making me too happy either. But switching realtors right now would just take time that we don't have!!
Anyway, here are the online pictures of the colonial house, ignore the furniture if you can, it's much better without it!

So now you can see what I'm talking about!
The second on our list is in a VERY cool neighborhood called Glendale. Supposedly, this city can be a bit sketchy but the location of the house is in the good part. It's about 7 blocks from the lake, which is cool, and the neighborhood is gorgeous! Here's the crazy part, the house is SO much like our house in Denver but bigger. It is the same layout with the 3 bedrooms in back, dining room that is open to the living room but then there is another room off the other side of the kitchen. Our square footage on the Denver house was 1133 and this one is over 1800 so you can imagine how much bigger it is. I don't have pictures of that one but it's definitely in the running. The down side to that house is that it needs a lot of updating. The plus side is it's pretty much all updates that we learned to do with the last house!
Anyway, I won't bore you with every house we looked at but I think those two are the only ones still in the running. We really want to see more houses in Waukesha so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our realtor will come through for us tomorrow.

Oh and one other great thing - Little Miss did SO good! She didn't seem bothered with getting in and out of the car at all! She was such a good girl, both days! I was very proud! Keep us in your thoughts that we can find a place this week.

Positive Milwaukee Note: There are gorgeous gorgeous houses in Milwaukee. I mean, completely renovated, huge, beautiful houses and for super cheap. The bonus - if you walk outside you could get shot! Go Milwaukee! ;-)
